Police and firefighters will be around town Saturday to collect gifts, food and other items for local needy families during the holidays.
Town officials are stepping up their annual holiday push with fire engines and police cruisers around town waiting to collect checks, cash, gift cards, non-perishable food items and unwrapped toys.
The donation collection points can be found at West Side Supermarket, Walmart at Town Line Plaza, and the Wells Fargo branch on Elm St. between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Donations to the Stuff a Fire Truck and Fill a Cruiser collections will help supplement the human services department’s Adopt-A-Family program, which provides gift cards for Christmas meals, toys and clothing for children under 12 and qualifying families.
Donors are asked to make contributions to the Adopt-A-Family program or the Fill a Cruiser and Stuff a Fire Truck by Dec. 17, so that the gifts and donations can be distributed on Dec. 18 and Dec. 21, in time for the holidays.
Those interested in learning more about the Adopt-A-Familiy program should contact Nicole Phillips in the human services department at (860)258-2799. Inquiries into the program can remain confidential.
