Rocky Encourages Summer Reading

New Britain Rock Cats mascot visits children at the library Tuesday morning.

New Britain Rock Cats Mascot Rocky made an unexpected trip to the  Tuesday morning to encourage children to read during the summer. 

Rocky's visit was part of the Rock Cats community outreach program and was in connection with their  (RBIS).

RBIS, which was established 13 years ago, is designed to inspire children, ages five through 12, to read during their summer vacation. Over 134 libraries throughout the state are participating in the program, which is sponsored by the New Britain Rock CatsConnecticut Library Consortium and Central Connecticut State University

Rocky visited with the children at the Stories with Cathy, which is a reading program for children, ages two and up. New Britain Rock Cats intern John Capodi read "Bats at the Ballgame" by Brian Lies and "Rhinos Who Play Baseball" by Julie Mammano. 

"We do a lot of reading programs like this," Capodi said.

After reading to the children, Rocky signed baseball cards and posed for photos. He toured the library and visited with other children in the building.
