Former Rocky Hill High School Softball Star Earns Award

Megan Ruonavaara named Female Athlete of the Week at Stonehill.

Ace has named freshman pitcher/first baseman Megan Ruonavaara (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) from the softball team as the Stonehill Female Athlete of the Week.

Ruonavaara helped lead the Skyhawks to a 6-1 week as she posted a 4-0 record in the pitching circle over four starts and also hit .313 (5-for-16) with four runs scored, two doubles, a home run and three RBI at the plate.

She posted a 2.33 earned run average while striking out 20 and walking just six in 30 innings of work, holding opposing batters to a .252 average, while also boasting a .625 slugging and .500 on-base percentage at the plate.

Ruonavaara earned complete game wins in victories over UMass Lowell, Bentley, defending NE-10 champions Assumption (9 innings) and American International. She was 2-for-3 with a home run in the Skyhawks 7-6 win over American International on Sunday.

It marks the first Athlete of the Week honor of the year for the Skyhawks freshman.

She also made the Dean's List.  Several freshmen made the list, including softball’s Ruonavaara who posted a perfect 4.0 in her first semester at Stonehill.
