New Math Coordinator

The Rocky Hill Board of Education is expected to appoint a math coordinator at a special meeting Tuesday night. 

The math superivsor, which will be paid $105,902 for full-year position, will be in charge of developing curriculum for the entire school system. The position was approved when the   was adopted on June 6, which included a

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Board of Education training/conference room at the . The appointment is expected to be discussed during executive session followed by action being made in public session. 

The disposal of obsolete furniture is also expected to be discussed at the meeting Tuesday night.

BoxTops for Education

A national program is helping fund the education of Rocky Hill students by collecting box tops from your favorite brands.

According to the , BoxTops for Education is a nation wide program in which residents clip and save bar codes from the packaging of participating products. Each top collected is worth 10 cents.

A collection box has been set up at the Parks and Recreation Department counter inside Town Hall and residents are encouraged to drop off their box tops during normal business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).

"Last year, Steven's School earned $2,100 just from clipping BoxTops," said in the announcement posting.

Coaches Needed

The Rocky Hill Park and Recreation Department is looking for people interested in coaching soccer this fall season.

Coaches are needed at the following levels:

  • Five additional coaches are needed for the five Munchkins teams, which is for children in kindergarten. 
  • Six coaches are needed for three Kickers teams, which is for children in grades first and second.
  • One head coach and four additional coaches are needed for the four Dribblers teams, which is for children in grades third and fourth.

The time commitment is between two to three hours per week, according to an email from the park and recreation department.

Central Connecticut Health District Appoints New Board Members

The local health district that covers Rocky Hill and surrounding towns . 

Kristine Nasinnyk and Margaret Hanbury, both of Newington, are the newest board members for the Central Connecticut Health District. Judith Sartucci and Art Yoaps of Rocky Hill currently serve on the board.

"The purpose of the Health District is to prevent disease and injury, promote a healthy environment, and protect the public health of its member towns," said of the Central Connecticut Health District.

The 11-member board "represent the needs and interests of their member towns, serve staggered three year terms and can be reappointed," according to the announcement.
