A statewide organization worked with the Rocky Hill town staff to make a visual presentation on the need for therapeutic foster parents.

Staff workers from Community Care Services, which is a statewide therapeutic foster care agency, along with town employees recently on the grounds of . The project is called "Put a Positive Spin on the Life of a Child!"

"Each pinwheel represents one child in Connecticut who is waiting to be placed in a foster home," said Denise A. Demers, LCSW of Community Care Services. "While the number itself is staggering, having a visual representation of the 1,400 children certainly adds another dimension to what we as an agency are trying to accomplish."

Demers said according to Rocky Hill staff members, "the initial reactions received from the public were very positive."

Talent Show For Dogs Raises Donations for Humane Society

A dog show at a Rocky Hill assisted living facility for seniors today will benefit the . 

The event is at at 2 p.m. and admission is a donation of dog-related supplies such as dog treats or blankets, which will be given to the Connecticut Humane Society.

Dogs will be judged in the following categories:

  • Best Dressed
  • Best Trained
  • Best Hugger
  • And others

Atria Greenridge Place is a community that offers assisted living services and special programs to seniors.

The Connecticut Humane Society is located at 701 Russell Rd. in Newington and its phone number is (800) 452-0114. The hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Top 40 Cover Band Will Perform During Concert Series Thursday Night

The Rocky Hill Park and Recreation Department will hold its last concert of the tonight. 

Darik and the Funbags is a Top 40 cover band who have been playing together since 1997. The band is known for its "infamous birthday routine" and has previously performed the following covers, according to its website:

  • "Rebel Yell"
  • "I want You to want Me"
  • "Sweet Child O' Mine"
  • "You Shook Me"
  • "You Give Love a Bad Name"

The concert will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in back of . There is ample parking at the venue and the concert is free of charge. Food will be available for purchase at 6 p.m.

Balance Will be The Topic of a Senior Discussion Series Friday

An occupational therapist will offer seniors and anyone interested tips on maintaining your balance as you get older later this week at a Rocky Hill assisted living facility.
