Recreation Challenge

The Rocky Hill Park and Recreation Department is challenging residents to complete five outdoor activities before the end of the month.

According to the park and recreation release, "each participant will be eligible for a prize but must pre-register at the Recreation Office and submit printed pictures of all activities and one digital picture of themselves participating in each activity by July 31."

Participants must complete the following tasks:

  • : Take a picture in front of the waterfall
  • : Take a picture in front of the CT River, Fishing dock or the
  • (Take a picture at one of our in front of the stage with the band)
  • Veteran’s Memorial Amphitheater (Take a picture at one of our in front of the stage with the movie screen)

The recreation challenge is designed to:

  • Bring families, individuals and the community together
  • Create a healthy and active environment
  • Recreating and utilizing our parks system and programs whenever possible

Once on the Island

A musical fable that centers around social prejudice on a Caribbean island is the latest installment from the town's theatre company set to premiere this week.

"Once on This Island" is "" that "tells the story of forbidden love between people from two different worlds," according to its event listing.

"Presented as a 'play within a play', a cast of village storytellers, attempting to calm a frightened young child, tell the romantic tale of a peasant girl who saves a rich city boy from death," the listing continues.

The performances of "Once on This Island" are July 13, 14 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. as well as July 22 at 2 p.m. All performances are inside the gymnasium. 

The price of admission is $20 for adults and $15 for seniors as well as students. Tickets can be purchased at the following link.

Nutmeg Book Series Starts Tonight

"The Mostly True Adventures of Homer T. Figg" by W.R. Philbrick will be the first book in the 2012 Nutmeg Book series discussion group Monday night at the .

The book discussion will be led by Children's Librarian Cathy Potter from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. in the childrens' program room. Extra copies of the book are available at the library.

Students from grades three to five are encouraged to attend the discussion and join in the "lively talk and fun activities based on the book," according to the library release. Children should read the book before they attend the discussion.

Health Care Open Forum

Excella Healthcare will be leading a discussion this week on how to select the correct health care options, medical equipment and services at . 

The panel will consist of a registered nurse, occupational therapist and physical therapist.

The "Health Care Open Forum" will be on July 13 at 2 p.m. at The Lodge at Cold Spring and anyone is encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served following the forum.
