According to an email from the Rocky Hill Park and Recreation Department, Church Street will be open to traffic again Friday.

began of phase one of the project on May 7 and will continue until it is completed this fall.

The project will improve the area on the eastern side of the Silas Deane Highway and the Route 160 intersection by and  Contractors will close Church Street up to the Center Street intersection and create a pedestrian walking area as well as parking spaces for the Rocky Hill Congregational Church.

The Rocky Hill Town Council authorized Town Manager Barbara Gilbert to apply for up to in July. A portion of the money would be used offset the cost of phase two of the Silas Deane Streetscape, which is expected to receive federal funding.

Open House and Parent Advisory Meeting Scheduled For September

The new teachers at the will be introduced to parents and guardians for the first time at a school parent advisory committee meeting on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in the media center.

Parents and guardians will get another chance to visit the high school later in the month during the fall open house.

The event will allow parents and guardians to visit each of their students' classrooms and get an "overview of course content, with emphasis on their expectations for student performance and achievement" from each teacher during a ten-minute session on Sept. 24 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., according to a release from the high school.

All administrators, guidance counselors, and support staff will be present at the open house, however parents and guardians are encouraged to follow up with teachers by setting up phone calls or meetings with them. 

"Members of the student senate will be on hand to serve as guides as parents travel from class to class," according to the release. Refreshments will also be served in the cafeteria.

All interested parents and guardians of high school students are encouraged to attend both events.   

Dancing and Music At Sorrento On The Green

Tony Reali will be performing Italian and pop music at the from 4 p.m to 1:30 a.m Friday. 

The live entertainment is free of charge and the bar menu is available at all times. There is also a dance floor for people to dance the night away.

Cheerleaders Needed For Youth Football

is still taking registrations for cheerleaders even though the deadline expired earlier this month.

Practice began on Aug. 1. All youth football games will be played on Sundays starting in September. However, the times and locations of the games will vary depending on age and town, according to the organization's website.

“CTYFL Cheer is an exciting way to teach the young athletes involved in our cheer leading program how to work together to reach a common goal," according the Rocky Hill Youth Football Club website. "The time, effort, physical training, workouts and practices involved in learning to become a team and master a skill instills pride and self respect in all our participants."
