Ferry Closed Due to Hurricane Irene

Department of Transportation Workers "tie down" Rocky Hill-Glastonbury Ferry in preparation for Hurricane Irene.

The Rocky Hill-Glastonbury Ferry is closed until further notice because of Hurricane Irene, according to Department of Transportation officials.

DOT workers "tied down" the Cumberland towboat and the Hollister III barge Friday morning, Kevin Nursick, DOT spokesman, said. They do not expect any problems with the ferries, Nursick added.

"We are taking extra measures that they (Rocky Hill-Glastonbury and Chester-Hadlyme ferries) are secure during the storm," Nursick said. "Even if it (Hurricane Irene) is more severe, we are quite comfortable with securing the ferry."
