Cleanup Begins in Rocky Hill

It is unclear when power will be fully restored in Rocky Hill, according to Town Manager Barbara Gilbert.

There are 9,745 Connecticut Light and Power customers or 100% of Rocky Hill without power. CL&P has just finished an assessment of the town, however power will not be restored until Wednesday morning at the earliest, Gilbert said.

Rocky Hill Public Schools will be closed Tuesday, according to the Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jeffrey Villar.

Town workers were cutting down branches from a tree that had fallen near the . Residents cleaned up their yards and placed branches along the curve.

The emergency shelter was full last night and the Council Chambers will be opened later today to accommodate the growing number of residents, Gilbert said. Children's movies will be shown inside the Council Chambers.

"The town manager and the town staff are doing what needs to be done," said Mayor Anthony LaRosa. 

Food has been taken from the schools and will be served to residents at the emergency shelter.

"My staff will keep everyone warm and feed," Gilbert said.

Gilbert said that the shelter is almost full and there will not be cots for everyone. First preference will be to seniors, however, staff will find places for residents to sleep.

The town cannot offer showers to the residents because the only building with shower facilities is  and there is not enough light to bring people in safely.

Residents should not worry about the pipes freezing, due to the increasing temperatures, Gilbert said.
