Church Provides For Residents Following Snowstorm

The Rocky Hill Congregational Church has power and is acting as a charging station for residents.

The Rocky Hill Congregational Church opened its doors Thursday morning to residents in need of relief from the cold and boredom.

Rev. Donna Kathryn Manocchio said the church will hold an open house on Thursday and Friday from 1-4 p.m. Anyone is welcome to play WII, watch movies, use WIFI and charge their phones and laptops.

Church events will continue as planned and the office is open for normal business hours.

However, even when the church did not have power, they were still helping the residents of Rocky Hill. The church lost power at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, just before their roast beef dinner. Instead of letting the food go to waste, the church brought it to the shelter on Sunday for the residents there.

Since the storm hit, Manocchio has been visiting congregates at the emergency shelter. She has moved a congregate from her home to another person's home that had power.

"I have been checking on congregates," Manocchio said. "I have been going home to home."

Congregates have also brought food to several people who were unable to live their homes.
