[Update] Account Established in Memory of Shawn Charles, Funeral Services Scheduled

The beloved Rocky Hill teen was killed last week in an accident that involved a car that he was working on.

It's been a week since Shawn Charles was killed when the jacks holding up a car that he was working gave way causing the car to fall on top of the popular teenager.

The recent Rocky Hill High School graduate was seriously injured and died from his injuries on July 23. 

Charles, 18, loved working on cars. According to his friends, he was constantly making improvements to his Honda Civic and new Acura Integra.

Last week, as word spread of his death, friends and acquaintances were distraught and in disbelief that he had died. Nearly 500 people gathered at the high school on July 24 .

On Saturday, a special memorial fund was established in Charles's memory at the Webster Bank branch on Cromwell Avenue after his mother, Dawn, visited the banking facility, according to Jason Taylor, vice president and branch manager. Dawn Charles plans to use the money to help cover the funeral expenses, according to Taylor.

Memorial services for Shawn Charles will be held on Aug. 8 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church, at 511 Maple St. in Wethersfield.

His funeral service will be Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. at the Wetherfield Evangelical Free Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill.
