Stress-Free Entertaining A-Z: From Greeting Your Guests to Preparing a Meal for Them!

Do you find yourself having a panic-attack when it comes to having guests at the house? I believe that entertaining guests of any kind should be a fun, not daunting experience for not only the guests, but for you as well!

Part 1:Introductions

This is always tricky so this is the rule I follow when making introductions.

A man should be introduced to a woman – for example;

  • Sarah I would like you to meet Mike

A younger person should be introduced to an older person – for example;

  • Mr. Jones I would like you to meet my nephew Samuel

Introduce family members to friends – for example;

  • Joe this is my brother Bobby

When a child is introduced to an adult – for example;

  • Use either first and last name or Mr. Mrs. Dr., etc to the child.

OMG I forgot their name!

This happens all the time. My husband and I are the worst when it comes to names.

We now write it down and say is over and over again! Here are some tips we learned along the way…

  • If you are introduced to someone for the first time and didn’t hear it – do not be afraid to ask again (especially if you are in a loud room). Then repeat their name and let them know it is very nice to meet them.
  • It is ok to ask for the pronunciation then say – Wow that is an interesting name (with a big smile).
  • Repeat – Repeat – Repeat the name at least three times in the same conversation. Maybe introduce them to others as well to really embrace their name.
  • Think of someone famous they may remind you of then you will not forget!!

Part 2: Cooking

Everyone's going to be starving at some point or another. We want our guests to want seconds and not to sneak the first plate to the dog.
  • When you decide that you are entertaining look in your refrigerator and pantry! Use ingredients that are in you COMFORT ZONE! This is not the time to experiment on new recipes.
  • Select recipes that can be prepared in advance and use store bought ingredients when necessary.
  • ALWAYS use fresh herbs. It will bring out the freshness and flavors for all of your dishes.

Part 3: Common Sense Courtesy

  • Be READY when your guests arrive. No one wants to wait for you while you're still getting ready, let's face it we've all been there.
  • Powder your bath. Everyone uses the bathroom and believe me they will be inspecting it
  • Stock up on toilette paper and napkins. No one wants to have to walk around with crumbs on their faces and it's embarrassing as a guest to have to realize there's nothing in the bathroom when it's too late.
  • Always light a candle or scented bowl in the room your company will be in to keep it smelling fragrant.
