There's a New Candidate in Town and She's an Independent Thinker

Why It's Time for a New Perspective on the Rocky Hill Town Council

     Lisa J. Marotta, Independent candidate and independent thinker has added Town Council member to her list of goals this fall.  A Special Prosecutor with the Division of Criminal Justice, local private practice attorney, and mother of three school-aged children, Marotta felt compelled to join the municipal race as an advocate for change. Her goals are: to create a proactive approach to town needs; to develop a long range plan that supports infrastructure; and, to increase fiscal responsibility.  Her message is clear, it's time for change.

     "Years of deferring maintenance and capital improvements have set us back significantly.  Needless overspending, coupled with a lack of long range vision and planning have resulted in decayed buildings; broken roads; inadequate facilities; and, school, as well as, senior capacity issues."  "Failure to plan ahead has families looking to other school districts, businesses looking to other venues, and senior space bursting at the seams."  Marotta's vision is to turn the town around and pull it out of its "reactive slump."  "I encourage you to review the budget as I have, line by line.  You will find that we have options - cost saving options that if implemented wisely will keep a tax increase at bay."  "Now, more than ever, Rocky Hill needs an advocate in its corner, an independent thinker who knows how to ask the tough questions, who isn't afraid to challenge an issue, and is able to negotiate the fairest results."

     In addition to reevaluating the budget, Marotta proposes the addition of money saving green initiatives.  "It's a proven fact that increased conservation efforts lead to decreased capital expenditures."  Not only is her Change Starts Here campaign the only effort espousing green initiatives, Marotta goes beyond mere suggestion and offers thought provoking concepts such as Farm to School Programs and incentives for residents, business owners and developers who utilize eco-friendly measures.  "Equally important, the greening of Rocky Hill is a requisite step to preserving our farmland, open space, and historic riverfront, the benefits of which will transcend generations."
