Emergency Physicians Make the Difference at Velocity Urgent Care

Emergency Department physicians John Yaylagul, DO, and Aleksandr Gorenbeyn, MD, FACEP, know firsthand how people feel when they have had an accident or suddenly taken ill. The sick or injured don’t want to wait to be evaluated and treated at a hospital. Fearful and hurting, they want answers and treatment as quickly as possible.

That is why Yaylagul and Gorenbeyn decided to open up Velocity Urgent Care centers, the first, a 3,800-sq. ft. clinic at 396 Cromwell Ave. in Rocky Hill, and in December 2013, the new Southington location at 365 Queen St., in a 3,200-sq.ft. facility that they designed for optimum medical treatment. The communities were selected based on demographics, need, and growing population.

The fact that Velocity Urgent Care is staffed and owned by two board-certified emergency physicians brings the facility to the highest level of care unavailable at other walk-in clinics. “It makes a huge difference to be run by emergency doctors vs. non-emergency trained practitioners,” Yaylagul said. “We are comfortable with many medical and physical conditions that other urgent care facilities are not.”

“People can just walk in and not have to wait. We’re more convenient and a lot less expensive,” Yaylagul said. “The maximum time from sign in to discharge is 45 minutes on average.”

Each day they may see people with orthopedic injuries, respiratory or gastrointestinal illnesses, genito-urinary conditions, burns, lacerations, skin conditions. Even some patients who don’t know the difference between urgent care and emergency departments come in for heart attacks, strokes and major bleeding — these individuals are rapidly stabilized and quickly sent to the ER by ambulance.

The facilities also offer occupational health services such as pre-employment and employee routine physicals, immigration physical exams, physicals for school, sports and camp, drug testing, immunizations, various screening exams, equipment fittings and more.

Both sites feature a highly trained staff including physician assistants, x-ray technicians, medical assistants and administrative assistants. A radiologist is on call to read x-rays within minutes. Each facility features state of the art technology and designated rooms for examinations, gynecological exams, digital x-rays, laboratory, on-site pharmacy and support rooms. Extensive testing such as EKGs, vision and pulmonary can be conducted.

“I enjoy interacting with patients. It is much more personal than a hospital Emergency Department,” Yaylagul said.

The physicians said it is important to get involved in the communities in which they serve, which is why they are members of several chambers of commerce, including Southington’s. A local ribbon-cutting held earlier this year gave members and guests the opportunity to tour the new medical facility.

Both clinics are open seven days a week, including holidays. Most insurance plans are accepted. For more information, call the Southington office, (860) 863-5835(860) 863-5835 or email info@velocityurgentcare.com. The website is www.velocityurgentcare.com .
