Romano's Pizza and Grill Opens Monday To Offer Fresh Alternatives

Manager says everything is homemade and the restaurant features and impressive and varied menu.

Two kitchen cooks, Jorge Orellana and Jorge Mendieta, decided they wanted to go out on their own and found a place to land at 154 New Britain Road in Rocky Hill, the former home of Barb's Pizza.

"They wanted to do something better for their families and thought the best thing was to go out on their own and here we are," Romano's manager Jennifer Banks said.

The site, while fitting the square footage footprint the owners wanted, needed work.

"We have a whole new hood system, a new fire alarm system to get us up to code, a steam table and new grill," Banks said. "We have all tables here and there are five tables outside for dining."

While the business is called Pizza and Grill, the menu is immense. There are a variety of appetizers, salads, seafood, chicken and veal entrees and grilled steaks, pasta dishes including a "Create Your Own Pasta" option, wraps, grinders, burgers, calzones and gyros. And, oh yeah, pizza: including specialty pizzas like taco pizza and loaded potato bacon.

The restaurant's alcohol permit is pending.

"Everything is homemade, from the marinade we use for the chicken to the fish to the sauce we use, nothing ever comes out of a can," Banks said. "Everything is homemade. We are also very proud of our customer service and the fact we get the food out to you in a timely manner."

Romano's also has a banquet room that can seat 25 to 30 people. Banks said the room can be used by groups and can have buffet or banquet food. It can also hold pizza parties.

Romano's also delivers.
