Restaurant Delivery Services Brings Convenience to Rocky Hill

860 To Go is looking at expanding its offerings.

A new restaurant delivery service is bringing fresh and different cuisines to Rocky Hill residents and helping them decide what is for lunch and dinner.

For six years, Warren Schmitt worked in a food distribution business where he sold food, equipment and supplies. In his travels, he came across restaurant delivery services throughout the country, but none in Connecticut besides pizza and Chinese. So, Schmitt decided to start his own and was formed in August 2011.

"We are delivering convenience that is unique, but that is not too big in Connecticut," he said.

After spending the summer recruiting restaurants, he was able to start his business with eight. Since August, his business has grown to include 20 restaurants and he delivers to two seperate areas (Middletown and Rocky Hill.) However, he is looking for new restaurants and many different cuisines.

"We have gotten some great feedback," he said.

When placing an order, customers can call the toll-free phone number, 1.855.860.TOGO (8646), or visit the 860 To Go website. On the website, there is a full list of all the restaurants that 860 TO GO customers can order from.

"People don’t want to go out for some reason. We fill that gap," he said. "It works nice for us and the restaurants."

The clientele for 860 To Go ranges from "corporate catering to hotels and residential." Schmitt said he serves everyone from single men to families to seniors.

"We are all across the board," he said.

The price of the food is the same as what you would pay at the restaurants, Schmitt said, but there is a $5 delivery fee for people who order online and $6 fee for people via the toll-free number.

Schmitt said more orders are placed online than via the telephone. He said many customers prefer online because it makes for a more accurate order while saving them money. He added that there are many people who place advance orders to save them time during their lunch break at work or to make sure dinner is ready when they arrive home.

“It is a great service. Customer service is a huge part as well as delivering food hot and fresh every time," Schmitt said. He added that he trained all six of his drivers to keep the food fresh and will only deliver in 10 to 15 miles radius of the restaurant.

"You don’t want to jeopardize the quality of food," Schmitt said.

860 To Go helps the restaurants by more than just delivering their food to local customers. Schmitt said that his business also provides marketing and promotion for the restaurants.

Over the next five years, Schmitt said he would like to grow his business throughout the state and would prefer to be more in few zones in Connecticut.

"I got big visions," he said.
