Popular Store Near Rocky Hill Ferry Landing Going Out of Business

Boutique's sales have never recovered since downturn in economy two years ago.

When Sally Farrell opened Tapestry Rose, a unique boutique gift shop bordering railroad tracks and within sight of the historic Rocky Hill-Glastonbury Ferry, it was a popular destination and was even voted "Best Gift Shop" in New England by Yankee Magazine.

But when the economy began its downturn in 2010, business at the quaint store also declined.

Customers have seen large sale signs outside the shop. Last week Farrell confirmed a not so well kept secret that the store is going to close at some point in the near future.

"We had a good 10-year run," she said. "Right about 2010 we started to struggle a little bit. We were hoping it would come back a little bit at a time but it just hasn't come back to the level that we need it to."

Tapestry Rose is a unique store in that it carries toys, clothing, jewelry, home decor, light furnishings, fine art, frames, vases, camping gear, gardening items, crystal ware and more.

"We are in the process of writing up a press release," Farrell said. "We are going to e-mail all our customers and let them know that we are going out of business. People coming in get the idea when they see the big sale sign out front and they put two and two together.

"The building has been for sale forever so I have no idea what is going on with that. It's sad. We have had loyal customers since we came here. We have vendors who have sold to us for years and now they wont have us anymore. We also have employees who will have to look for other jobs. There is nothing good about this."
