New Website Showcases Influential Women in Connecticut History

Rocky Hill company designs website for Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame.

Designing the new Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame website was a “labor of love” for one Rocky Hill company.

About 10 months ago, the staff at the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame approached the Pita Group, which is an integrated marketing and branding agency, about designing their new website.

The mission of the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame is to preserve the stories of those inducted, educate the public and inspire women throughout the state and country.  Pita Group Executive Creative Director Paul Pita took that mission statement and used it to make a website that would serve as a “resource” on the female leaders, innovators and educators of Connecticut.

There is no building for the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame. However, Pita said the new website gives the organization something with a more “global reach" than a building made of bricks and mortar.

“They (Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame) knew they could become stronger as an organization by having a more unique and strategic online presence,” he said.

Designing the website for the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame was “more than a project” for the company.

“This was a great story and it needed to be told,” Pita said. “It was a real team effort.”

One of the unique features of the website is the “Rose Garden.” The feature allows the general public to “buy a rose” for a special woman in their life. Once a "rose" is purchased, a story of the influential woman will appear on the website. Each rose costs $100.

The stories and the site itself can be shared through all social media platforms.

“It (Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame) is a community of powerful and influential women and let’s share that,” Pita said.

The site also acts as a fundraising tool, an events calendar and a newsletter for the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame.

The Pita Group was started 15 years ago as a communications print design company. In 1998, the company of 23 people started doing Web development, and about five years ago acquired Vrroomedia to help add streaming video and 3-D graphics to their websites.
