Looking for something different to do this summer? Tired of the same old same old? 

Every Thursday night from 5 to 9 p.m. through August 25, downtown Torrington transforms into a fabulous Main Street Marketplace. 

Last year nearly 25,000 people came to check out one of the liveliest events in the region.  Recognized by the state as one of the top 10 economic initiatives for 2010, selected as an outstanding example of a creative economic initiative in all of New England by the New Engalnd Foundation for the Arts and recently winning an Award of Excellence in the "Ongoing Event" category" by the CT Main Street Center, Torrington's Main Street Marketplace is the premier regional marketplace. 

Each Thursday night features close to 70 vendors; vintage and modern jewelry and fashion, hand-crafted items, local gourmet foods, a farmers market, street musicians, outdoor sidewalk dining, visual art installations, activities for children, a live mermaid statue, face painting, stilt-walkers, jugglers, international foods, and more. Flash-mob dancing by Nutmeg Conservatory students may also surprise you. 

Local businesses are open late to accomodate Main Street Marketplace visitors. Only a 40 minute ride from the greater Hartford area, the Torrington Main Street Marketplace is the place to go to for some summer fun.
