Human Services Agency Closing Rocky Hill Office; Laying Off Workers

REM Connecticut is also closing an office in Wallingford.

Roughly 65 care workers are losing their jobs after human services agency REM Connecticut announced it is closing two of its offices in Rocky Hill and Wallingford

The Hartford Courant reported that REM Connecticut, an agency part of the for-profit Mentor Network, wrote a letter to the state Department of Labor saying the closure was a "last resort" but the funding landscape has not improved, forcing the business to go through with the closure.

The workers getting laid off make $13 hourly, the Courant reported.

According to the company's website, REM has been in operation since 1998 and has worked collaboratively with the state.
