Hazardous Chemical Discovered in Rocky Hill Business Park

Hexavalent Chromium was uncovered in a Rocky Hill facility.

A chemical that has been linked to cancer, asthma and ulcers has been discovered in a room at a Rocky Hill business park.

WTNH reported that the Connecticut Occupational Safety and Health Administration finalized a report stating that a green powder substance found in a space at the Bellamose Business Park has been tested positive as Hexavalent Chromium.

The chemical was first uncovered by John Turek, a local businessman who opened a car detailing business in this space, WTNH reported.

The space Turek rented from was formerly occupied by Pratt & Whitney, which made parts there up until 2001. After the company left, the state worked with them to clean the space out, but did not clean the Chromium from that one room, WTNH reported.
