Chamber Changes Format of Gathering Place

Small business owners and Chamber of Commerce members meet each month to network over bacon and eggs.

The Rocky Hill Chamber of Commerce is changing the structure of its monthly networking breakfast from a lecture to a business discussion.

Local business owners and Chamber of Commerce members gather the third Friday of every month at the New York Pickle Deli to network, eat breakfast and discuss topics affecting small businesses.

During each meeting, a guest speaker would give a presentation to the group on their area of expertise. However due to the low turnout of recent gathering places, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Paul Carr said he has decided to scrap that idea.

The gathering place will continue to meet each month, however the format has been changed to a "round-table discussion” with no more guest speakers.

"We are going to continue to drive commerce," Carr said. He added a lot of effort went into planning the speakers and reserving the space.

Friday morning was the first time that the gathering place met since the change and those that turned out for the meeting enjoyed the new format.

"There is more talking going on today than ever before," Carr said.
