On Sept. 22, 1968, Richard Caputo, 20, was killed in action
in Hau Nghia Province in South Vietnam, the sole soldier from Rocky Hill to die
in battle during the Vietnam War.
Now, 45 years later, the town has agreed to memorialize Caputo on the Rocky Hill Center Green. The Hartford Courant reports that the town will install a bronze plaque honoring Caputo on the green, with a dedication ceremony slated to be held on Sept. 22.
"I think it's nice,” Caputo’s widow, Ann Wolanin, told The Courant. I think he deserves recognition. It's still an open wound with us.”
