Rocky Hill Ferry Back in Service

The ferry closed for a little over a week due to flooding on the Connecticut River.

The state ferry that crosses over the Connecticut River between Glastonbury and Rocky Hill will reopen this week.

The ferry had closed down on May 24 due to concerns over river flooding, and had been offline since that week.

But on Monday, the state Department of Transportation, which runs the ferry service, gave clearance so that the ferry could resume service, according to an email from DOT Spokesman Kevin Nursick. Service will likely resume this week.

This is the second time this year ferry travel has been put on hold. The 2013 season got a 10-day late start earlier this month so the ferry could be outfitted with a newer engine and parts.

The ferry is the longest continuously run of its kind in the country.
