Book Buddies Program Starts at the Library

Young children got the chance to escape the heat and jump into a world of wonder as the book buddies program started Wednesday at the .

The Book Buddies program allows fourth grade students and older to read to children in grades kindergarten to third. The program helps build confidence in young readers, improve listening skills and form friendships.

"Children are getting to socialize with kids that they may not know," Catherine Potter, children's librarian, said.

Language Arts Coordinator Darlene Brown read "How Rocket learned to read," while the children enjoyed their lunches. Brown was the guest reader for this week. Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Marian I. Hourigan is expected to read next week. 

Book buddies meets every Wednesday in the Stepney room from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. until August 10. Parents must provide lunch for their child.
