P&Z Meeting June 19 Will Discuss Foundry

Rocky Hill Riverfront Preservation Society says the proposal is 'not perfect but more close.'

Ed Chiucarello, founder of the Rocky Hill Riverfront Preservation Society, talked recently about the proposal for the former foundry location on the Connecticut River.

"Plans for this site have been going on for a long, long time," Chiucarello said. "At one time it was going to be a banquet facility and then maybe office space but the latest proposal for a mixed use facility is more attractive.

"There are a lot of people on my e-mail list, about 150, for the Rocky Hill Riverfront Preservation Society," Chiucarello said. "And when I e-mailed the people on that list, I asked then what they wanted to see done at the foundry. I took all of that information and handed it off to Charlie Wisnowski and he took it to Attorney Anthony Romano.

"So when he is talking to the neighbors, he really is talking to the neighbors. There have been a group of neighbors that have had a say and there has been a lot of give and take. It's not a perfect proposal but were close. It's a mystery what will happen but I'm optimistic."

Some Meadow Road neighbors has questions about the proposal. One asked and estimated that more than 18,000 cubic feet of fill would be needed to level out a steep incline. There was also a petition signed and submitted by at least some of the Meadow Road neighbors asking the town to re-define the neighborhood as residential.

The Planning and Zoning Commission will meet June 19 at 6:30 and the foundry proposal will be on the agenda as well.
