The Third Annual Central CT Feed My Starving Children MobilePack, scheduled for November 1, 2 and 3, has been postponed as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The postponement is a result of logistical difficulties in getting the truckload of product and supplies, as well as flights for national staff to arrive from other states, here by Tuesday, October 30 for set up. The event will be rescheduled for sometime after the start of the new year. Registered volunteers will be notified by email as to the rescheduled date. The food drive to benefit local food pantries will take place at the rescheduled event as well.
More than 1,000 volunteers were registered to work two-hour shifts over the three-day event. Last year, volunteers packed more than 272,000 "MannaPack" meals, which filled an entire shipping container. Those meals were delivered to schools and orphanages in Swaziland, in the Horn of Africa.
Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit, four-star rated charity that provides food to starving children in 70 countries. The food is specially developed to restore to health those suffering from malnutrition. With very low operating costs thanks to volunteers, the meals cost less than 25 cents each.
