Book Buddies Hear a Tale from the Assistant Superintendent

Elementary school children listen to stories while they enjoy their lunch at the library.

The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction
 Marian I. Hourigan spent Wednesday afternoon reading to the program at the .

The program allows fourth grade students and older to read to children in grades kindergarten to third. The program helps build confidence in young readers, improve listening skills and form friendships, Catherine Potter, children's librarian, said.

Hourigan read Max Words by Kate Banks and Born to Read by Judy Sierra to the children.

"She's a former teacher, so she loves reading to kids," Potter said. 

meets every Wednesday in the Stepney room from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. until August 10. Parents must provide lunch for their child.
