CT’s Classic Lotto jackpot, which had rolled to an impressive $4.6 million, was ultimately won on two jackpot winning tickets for the Friday, March 30 drawing.
The winning Classic Lotto numbers on March 30 were 4 - 14 - 16 - 24 - 30 - 42. In total, 8,592 winning Classic Lotto tickets were sold for that date, with prizes ranging from $2 to $4,600,000. The jackpot’s $4.6 million prize was split between the two winning tickets, each worth $2,300,000.
The morning after Friday’s Classic Lotto drawing, Paula Toland of Preston logged onto the CT Lottery website (ctlottery.org) to look up the winning numbers and check her tickets. What she found left her stunned—the six numbers on her ticket were a perfect match with the winning numbers drawn. “It was pretty exciting,” Toland told Lottery officials. “I was in total disbelief.” Toland, who is employed as a bookkeeper, said the $2.3 million jackpot prize would allow her to live more comfortably. “I won’t retire, but we’ll take more trips…hopefully an Alaskan cruise,” said Toland.
Classic Lotto's jackpot is payable as a 21-year annuity or a one-time cash lump-sum. Toland elected the cash lump-sum of $1,589,382 (before taxes) and received a prize check for $1,085,548 (after taxes). For selling Tolland her jackpot winning ticket, Country Farm, located at 66 Main Street in Jewett City, will receive a $10,000 bonus from the CT Lottery.
The second Classic Lotto jackpot “Quick Pick” ticket was purchased by five members of the Fontana family: Sal Fontana of Colchester; Maria Fontana, Sebastian Fontana and Giuseppa Fontana of Rocky Hill, and Joseph Fontana of Wethersfield. The Fontanas also elected the jackpot’s cash lump-sum value of $1,589,382 (before taxes). Each received a prize check for $217,109 (after taxes).
For selling the Fontanas their jackpot winning ticket, West Side Marketplace, located at 887 Cromwell Avenue in Rocky Hill, will receive a $10,000 bonus from the CT Lottery.
The overall chances of winning a prize in Classic Lotto are 1 in 39.3. The chance of winning the jackpot is 1 in 7,059,052.
