Grant Money Will Benefit Rocky Hill Ferry

Funding from the federal government will be used to build a buidling with public bathrooms and a repair shop at Ferry Park as well as improve the parking lot.

 

A federal grant for $788,000 will be used to make improvements to the parking lot and build an office with public bathrooms at , according to a release from state Rep. Tony Guerrera. 

There is currently no public bathroom facilities at Ferry Park and the funding will help build a "New England"-style house on the west side of Meadow Lane, the release said. The structure will contain the following facilities:

  • Office space
  • Repair workshop
  • ADA-compliant restroom

The Federal Highway Administration grant will also help renovate the parking lot at Ferry Park.

Guerrera said the improvements to Ferry Park are important because they will impact "an historic treasure," the .

“The ferry is an important part of our local transportation infrastructure and a tourism magnet for Glastonbury and Rocky Hill,” he said in the release sent out Friday afternoon.

The Rocky Hill-Glastonbury Ferry is the longest continuously operating ferry in the United States. For more information about the Connecticut Ferries, visit the DOT website.
