Rocky Hill teachers joined almost 1,000 people at the “Stand Up for Public Education” rally at the State Capitol Tuesday afternoon.

The rally is to get lawmakers to fight the governor’s education reform bill and promote high-quality education for all students, according to a Connecticut Education Association press release. Connecticut Education Association currently supports a Education Committee "alternative to the governor’s proposal."

“Teachers are making a powerful statement as they rally in Hartford. Teachers’ voices need to be prominent in education reform because they are in the classroom every day," said Connecticut Education Association President Phil Apruzzese. "Teaching is their profession, and their students are the focus of their life’s work. Teachers know more about learning and academic achievement than any other group of individuals.”
